Samuel S. Badalian is the Chief of the Department of Women’s Health at Bassett Healthcare Network in New York, as well as a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He received his medical degree in 1981 from Yerevan State Medical University, followed by a Ph.D. in Physiology in 1986 and a Doctor of Medical Science degree in 1990 from St. Petersburg, Russia. After completing his fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, he worked in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University.
Dr. Badalian is a board-certified in obstetrics/gynecology and Urogynecology/Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. He has published over 45 scientific articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and is an internationally recognized lecturer and pelvic surgeon. He has served as a contributing editor and reviewer for several journals, including the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. He has also served as a grants reviewer for the American Urogynecological Society Foundation.
Dr. Badalian has been invited to teach and perform advanced pelvic reconstruction techniques in countries such as Russia, France, Ghana, Kazakhstan, and Armenia. In addition to his work in the United States, he has visited Armenia annually since 2006 to perform urogynecological surgeries in various hospitals, with the support of Yerevan State Medical University, the Ministry of Health, and the Fund for Armenian Recovery (FAR). Dr. Badalian has organized three urogynecology symposiums in Armenia, bringing together experts from around the world. In recognition of his expertise and dedication to improving healthcare, Dr. Badalian received a prestigious Fulbright Scholar award from the United States Department of State to develop Urogynecology subspecialty in Armenia. This award enabled him to embark on a groundbreaking project to develop a comprehensive urogynecology program in Armenia.
During his time as a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Badalian traveled to Armenia on three occasions between 2021 and 2022, spending a total of six to eight weeks in the country. During his visits, he provided specialized training in Urogynecology to a group of five talented Armenian fellows. This work was well recognized by the Board of Foundation for International Urogynecological Assistance (FIUGA) and published in International Urogynecological Journal in 2023.
